Why “Lil Crow”?

Most people assume I named my business after the bird—and why wouldn’t I? Crows are incredible creatures: smart, curious, loyal, and mischievous. They remember faces. They bring gifts. They talk back. So, I can relate.

But the real story behind Lil Crow goes deeper than ca-caws and feathers.

Crow is my mother’s maiden name. She didn’t know much about her father, Gordon Crow—he left when she was just a baby and then passed away shortly thereafter. But the scraps we do know read like a character straight out of a Southern novel: He was ornery, in the military, a boxer, and a railroad man (we think). And I’m his spitting image. See for yourself:

My great aunt once looked at me and said, “She is little Gordon Crow from her head to her toe.” When I’d act up, I’d hear it again: “You little Crow thing, you.” Somewhere between those playful warnings and that strong family name, Lil Crow stuck.

I may not have known my biological grandfather, but his echo lives in much of what I do. From creating ceramic wares to sculpture to painting—you name it—it’s made from a bloodline that’s a little wild, a little stubborn, and always made with a fiery soul.

Thanks for reading. And welcome to Lil Crow. – Stacey
